Historical Commission OKs $65 for Sept. 19 event

Douglas Historical Commission locks in final plans for Sept. 19 ballfield event. Meeting by Zoom, members Dawn Fontaine, Christy Turgeon and Rebecca LaValley voted 3-0 to spend the commission's remaining $65 volunteer budget on popcorn, peanuts, bags and event programs. A new historical marker is set to be installed at Soldiers Field on Sept. 17, covered until a public unveiling at 2 p.m.
Sept. 19, followed by an old-time baseball game against a Holliston-based team called Mudville. Fontaine said she remained "uneasy" about the matchup, with Mudville's participation still unconfirmed days before the event. Douglas Youth Baseball/Softball will run food sales, and rented yard games, including cornhole and giant Jenga, come courtesy of Picnic at the Park.
