Oktoberfest Panel Scrambles After Vendor Cancels
Other Committee · Meeting of September 14, 2026
Douglas Oktoberfest planners scramble to fill volunteer and vendor gaps three weeks out. The committee reported 134 vendor spots filled but was still searching for a barbecue or German food vendor after one backed out for a competing three-day booking, with a member noting, "You signed on for us, you were kind of obligated to do what you signed on for." Volunteer recruitment lagged badly, with roughly four people signed up against a need of about 120. The committee also scrapped a kiddie race-car track after a vendor quoted $6,000 for four hours plus $500 an hour more, calling the price "nuts," and settled on raffling a donated remote-control helicopter instead of using a $150 grill as a spinning-wheel prize.
The festival is set for October 3, with an early forecast calling for 69 degrees and sunny.
