DOUGLAS — December 4, 2025 — Douglas's America 250 Committee set a Fourth of July parade for Saturday, July 4, 2026, at 11 a.m. and a Memorial Day parade for Saturday, May 23, 2026, also at 11 a.m. The small volunteer committee, meeting December 4, reached verbal consensus on both dates and discussed a proposed parade route running from the West Street and Main Street intersection down Main Street to Cook Street and ending at Soldiers Field, where a cookout-style community event would follow from roughly noon to 2 p.m. The committee shelved fireworks planning as too logistically complex for the available timeline but said the idea is not permanently off the table. On a military honor banner program for downtown poles, members converged on design number 25 — a large-photo format with flag imagery and prominent last-name display — with banner prices ranging from $84.95 for the smallest size to $124.95 for the largest, plus a $69.95 mounting bracket; a minimum first order of five banners is required, and the committee's goal is to have banners installed by Memorial Day. Two prospective members, identified as Sheena and Randy, attended the meeting after responding to a social-media post and are expected to formally apply ahead of the next meeting, scheduled for December 18.
