Douglas Panel Details Hometown Hero Banner Plans

Other Committee · Meeting of October 15, 2026

DOUGLAS — The Douglas Heritage and Honor Committee worked through pricing and logistics for a hometown hero banner program honoring veterans and first responders. Vendor Hometown Heroes quoted $89.95 for an 18-by-36-inch banner and $69.95 for its bracket, plus a combined $10 shipping charge, bringing the total to roughly $164.90 per order. Members agreed to sell banners by predetermined street zones and order in minimum batches of five, but said the program cannot launch until they resolve with town hall staff, referred to as Jean and Lisa, whether sales can run through the existing Unipay account set up for the 250th celebration.

"It would be really nice if we can encourage people to do it as Christmas gifts," one member said, with the committee targeting the town's early-December Winter Stroll for an order table. The committee also discussed asking the Historical Commission to help make a September vintage baseball tournament, which drew 27 players, an annual event after an opposing team withdrew days before the game.
