Douglas 250th Committee Elects Chair, Plans Fourth of July Parade at First Meeting

DOUGLAS — November 6, 2025 — Douglas forms a new 250th Anniversary Committee and immediately sets its sights on a Fourth of July parade, a Soldiers Field celebration, and a revival of the Memorial Day Parade. The three-member volunteer committee held its inaugural meeting November 6, electing a member identified only as Alyssa as chair, with Carrie Smith and Ross Smith each voting aye in a roll-call. Members spent the bulk of the session debating a proposed parade route — starting at West Street, running down Main, and ending at Soldiers Field — and a family event to follow, with fife-and-drum corps, historical reenactors, and costumed characters floated as possible attractions. A Hometown Heroes military tribute banner program drew strong interest, with banner costs running $85 to $125 each plus $70 mounting brackets. The committee confirmed a town donation account is open for checks payable to the Town of Douglas and discussed commemorative challenge coins and $2 donation pens as early fundraisers. Next meetings are set for December 4 and December 18, both at 6 p.m.
