Douglas Heritage Committee authorizes grant signature, schedules fall baseball game planning

DOUGLAS -- July 2, 2026, Douglas Heritage and Honor Committee wraps Fourth of July event debrief, authorizes $1,000 grant signatory, and eyes fall baseball game. The committee unanimously voted to designate its chair as the authorized signatory on a $1,000 grant, applied for by a member identified as Alyssa, which has been deposited into the committee's account and will fund upcoming expenses including commemorative coin certificates and a new committee banner. Members credited a broad volunteer corps, including Pat Manning, Tom and his family, Nicholas, Nat, Calvin, and facility hosts Jimmy, Sue, and Ben Tocino, with making the town's first major Fourth of July celebration in years a success at Soldiers Field; roughly 600 small American flags distributed along Main Street were entirely claimed by attendees. The committee also began preliminary planning for a fall baseball game tentatively set for September 12 in partnership with the Douglas Public Library, agreeing to recruit players from all town departments via a memo and to reconvene July 16 with library contact Rebecca to advance the project. Coin certificates, listing donor name, coin number, and an optional memorial dedication, are to be mocked up by vendor Sue at Graffiti Works, with coins remaining on sale through the end of 2026; the committee said it expects to finish the year in the black.
