Town facilities advisor Matt Wojcik reported to the Building and Facilities Construction Committee on May 20 that the lowest of several bids for the fire station heating and ventilation upgrade was $799,900, with the highest bidder — identified as Renaud — topping $1 million; construction oversight by Weston and Sampson adds $57,000, putting the total near $860,000. An earlier round of bids was rejected when all exceeded $900,000 and funding was insufficient. Wojcik said he expects to sign a contract within one to two weeks. Separately, Action Environmental was awarded a $37,400 contract to demolish the asbestos-laden Brown Building on Gleason Court — below the town's roughly $50,000 budget — pending DEP approval of the asbestos removal plan. Town advisor John Chabano confirmed Douglas has submitted its Green Communities grant application, targeting pump station upgrades and highway building weatherization, with an award announcement hoped for by end of June.
