Douglas Library Board Skips December Meeting, Sets January 6 Combined Session
Douglas library board hits accessibility wall again as auction lifts capital fund to $285,000.
DOUGLAS -- November 25, 2025, Douglas library board hits accessibility wall again as auction lifts capital fund to $285,000. The Simon Fairfield Public Library Board of Trustees met November 25 and heard Library Director Justin report that the Friends of the Library autumn auction raised $9,903 and the Oktoberfest book sale brought in $1,133, moving the capital campaign balance from $277,000 to $285,000. A heated exchange over building accessibility produced no motion, with the director telling trustees that construction quotes from vendors "can't be honored beyond one day" due to market instability and that "these conversations we have every month are not productive." A $12,857.48 grant is expected to post in December, and a federal court ruling permanently blocking the executive order that sought to dismantle the Institute of Museum and Library Services drew board applause. The board voted to cancel its December 23 meeting and combine it with January, scheduling a session for January 6, 2026, to include the director's annual performance review and a preliminary FY27 budget presentation.
