Douglas Cultural Council Defers Officer Elections to December amid Succession Concerns

DOUGLAS -- November 13, 2025, Douglas Cultural Council tables officer elections, warns of possible dissolution. The council met November 13 to elect a new chair, secretary, and treasurer, but adjourned without filling any position after outgoing officers, several completing their final eligible terms, spent the meeting explaining role duties to newer members who declined to immediately volunteer. The council's available grant balance stands at $9,153.46, comprising an $8,400 state allocation, account interest, and Oktoberfest booth proceeds, with 34 applications pending a vote at the December 10 meeting, now moved to 6 p.m. Members flagged a potential membership crisis after at least one member indicated she is leaving town, noting that falling below five members would render the council defunct and cut off cultural grant funding to local organizations including the library and senior center.
